Progression is made on the I Wish You a Merry QAL, with the second block being a tree farm.
This Christmas Tree Farm block is the amazing work of April Adams at JANDA Bend Christmas Trees.
I love this block. It was easy to make, and has a classic holiday feel to it. I am dreaming up a larger sized quilt using just this block but can’t get ahead of myself! After piecing together the block and sandwiching the squares (I continue to use the quilt as I g o method to make it easier to finish up come December), I felt the trees needed a little something to jazz them up.
I used this block as a practice exercise to FMQ straight lines with my darning foot. I didn’t do too bad! I then added FMQ stars above the trees as toppers. They felt too ‘night’ star like, as in they belonged in the sky, so what is one to do? Simple, given the first block was appliqued, to cover them up with appliqued stars and snowflakes.
Thus my completed Tree Farm block came to be!
Here is a close up of my two favorite trees…aren’t they cute!!
And the two blocks competed to date! The introductory post for this QAL can be found by clicking on Jandabendquilts.
Love your version of Block 2! So many people had fun with this one. Although I haven’t quilted my blocks yet (I’ll do that after the quilt top is finished) I’m sure getting a lot of ideas.
